Birth is a special time in the life of any family, whether it’s the first child or the fourth. At Alamance Regional’s BirthPlace, we provide you and your family all the care, comfort and support you need. Our highly skilled staff includes board-certified obstetricians; certified midwives and doulas; nurses who are specially trained in labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care; an experienced neonatal team; and certified lactation consultants.

Family centered care allows mothers and newborns to be cared for together by one nurse. Should your baby need special attention, our Level II/III neonatal nursery, created in partnership with Duke University Medical Center, will provide care for premature, low birth weight or ill babies.

Before delivery, you can participate in a variety of classes that will help prepare you and your family for a healthy, positive birth experience. After delivery, Mom and Dad will be pampered with our special hospitality services.

The BirthPlace also features an on-line nursery. Passwords are required for viewing. These can be obtained from the baby's mother. Click here to visit the online nursery.

If you’re looking for an obstetrician, midwife, or pediatrician, you can use our on-line Physician Finder Service. For more information, click on one of the links below. For questions or to schedule a tour of the BirthPlace, call 336-538-7970.

Labor, Delivery and Recovery (LDR) Suites

Our private LDR suites combine the comforts of home with the latest technology. These spacious suites feature a cozy chair for Dad, hardwood floors, an armoire that holds a remote-controlled TV and complete sound system, a refrigerator, and large private bath.

Of course, we’ve also included the best equipment for mother and baby. A special birthing bed helps make Mom more comfortable. And the medical staff has at its fingertips monitors, delivery equipment, an infant warmer, bassinet, and infant care equipment.

If a Cesarean Section is needed, high-tech operating suites and recovery rooms are just around the corner from the LDR suites.

After delivery, you’ll stay in a private postpartum room where you can get some well- deserved rest in a quieter environment. Each room has a private bath and large picture window with an outdoor view.

Pain Control Options
While you’re in labor, we can offer you a wide variety of pain control options, including epidural anesthesia, intravenous and intramuscular narcotics. Your nurse will also help you with breathing and relaxation techniques learned in childbirth classes. Your obstetrician, the anesthesiologist and nurse can help you choose the best pain control method for you.

Level II/III Neonatal Nursery
In April 2006, Alamance Regional opened a Level II/III special care neonatal nursery. This nursery, a joint venture of Alamance Regional and Duke University Medical Center, cares for premature, low birth weight and ill babies. A full-time board-certified neonatologist heads our neonatal team. Our staff also includes nurses with neonatal care experience and training. Should the need arise, very sick babies or those requiring surgical or cardiology care will be transferred to the Level IV neonatal intensive care nursery at Duke. Level IV nurseries like the one at Duke are found only at North Carolina’s teaching hospitals.
