Alamance Regional Cancer Center's Support Groups and Services
Wings to Recovery – Newly-diagnosed cancer patients are able to meet with a cancer survivor to ask questions and talk about fears and concerns. Volunteer mentors are specially trained offer emotional support. For more information or to refer a patient to Wings to Recovery, contact Rosa Davis, RN, at 336-586-3737.
Healing Touch – Cancer patients are able to receive Healing Touch therapy free of charge. Healing Touch helps reduce stress and anxiety, promote relaxation and restore a sense of well-being. Certified healing touch practitioners use light touch to influence the body’s energy system. Outpatient Healing Touch services are provided in the Pastoral Care and Counseling office at the Grand Oaks Center on the Alamance Regional Campus. Breast Cancer Support Group – A breast cancer support group meets once a month at the Norville Breast Care Center. For more information, call 336-538-7577.
Cancer Family Support Group
A support group for friends and family members of cancer patients is offered the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Grand Oaks Center on the Alamance Regional Campus. This group is open to anyone who serves as a support person for a cancer patient. For more information or to register, call Rosa Davis at 336-586-3737.
KidsCan! – KidsCan! is a program designed to provide emotional support for children and teens that have a parent or family member with cancer. Sessions for children, teens and parents are offered. KidsCan! is supported through a grant from the Holt Foundation, formed by NFL stars and Gibsonville natives Torry and Terrence Holt, and the Charitable Foundation of Alamance Regional. Look Good Feel Better – helps women learn beauty techniques that can restore their appearance and self-image during chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Women learn about makeup techniques, skin care, nail care and options related to hair loss such as wigs, turbans and scarves.
Transportation – For patients who need someone to drive them to treatments and appointments, the Cancer Center keeps a list of area volunteers who can provide transportation. We also have a van service for cancer patients who are wheelchair or stretcher-bound.
