Experience & Expertise
Our therapists have the specialized training, clinical expertise and national certifications needed to provide patients with the highest level of care. We have specialists who are board-certified in orthopedic, neurological and geriatric therapy. Many of our staff members hold doctorate or master’s degrees. Special partnerships with the doctoral physical therapy program at Elon University and the physical therapy assistant program at Guilford Technical Community College also allow our staff to hold teaching positions in these programs, and for faculty and students to contribute to our rehabilitation programs.
Occupational Therapy – Our occupational therapists help patients gain the skills they need for the activities of daily living. Our treatment area includes a fully equipped kitchen. We also have a therapist with special training in the needs of low vision patients.
Physical Therapy – Our physical therapists provide treatment for orthopedic patients, as well as those with neurological disorders, such as stroke, Parkinson’s or multiple sclerosis. We also offer evaluation and treatment of balance disorders and vestibular rehabilitation.
Aquatic Therapy - Patients with arthritis and other conditions that would benefit from water exercise are able to receive aquatic therapy at the Wellness Center at The Village at Brookwood.
Speech-Language Pathology – Our speech language pathologists evaluate and treat speech and language disorders including voice, cognitive-communications, aphasia and fluency disorders. They also evaluate and treat swallowing disorders and routinely perform modified barium swallow studies.
Inpatient Services
Our rehabilitation team prepares patients who are recovering from surgery or an illness for the transition to home or other inpatient facilities. Patients scheduled for orthopedic surgery have the opportunity to meet the physical therapist before surgery and discuss his or her individual rehabilitation plan. Our therapy team also provides rehabilitation services for Edgewood Place, Alamance Regional’s skilled nursing facility located at The Village at Brookwood. A special unit at Edgewood Place is equipped and designed for the unique needs of rehabilitation patients, including a gym with a kitchen, stairs and other items to help patients practice every-day living skills.
Oncology Rehabilitation – The Oncology Rehabilitation program provides an interdisciplinary approach to meeting the individual needs of cancer patients and caregivers. After diagnosis, during treatment and in recovery, patients receive care from therapists and professionals who specialize in lymphedema, exercise, stress management, nutrition, massage therapy and activities of daily living.
Women’s Rehabilitation Services – Women in all stages of life can face medical conditions that interfere with daily activities – conditions such as incontinence, pelvic pain, osteoporosis, pre-natal and post-natal pain. We utilize biofeedback, exercise, relaxation techniques, pain management, and other therapies to help women manage these health problems and regain the confidence they need for an active life.
- Alamance Regional also offers cardiac rehabilitation (HeartTrack) and pulmonary rehabilitation (LungWorks) through our LifeStyle Center.
