American Diabetes Association North Carolina 2009 Provider of the Year – Our Diabetes Education Program and one of the program’s educators, Hilda Cook, received the 2009 Provider of the Year and 2009 Patient Care awards from the North Carolina Chapter of the American Diabetes Association. The Diabetes Education Program, which is part of Alamance Regional LifeStyle Center, provides a range of programs to area residents, including diabetes management, gestational diabetes and the insulin pump program. The programs are designed to help patients better manage diabetes.

Microsoft Hospital of the Year (2005) – Alamance Regional was named Hospital of the Year by the Microsoft Corporation and the Microsoft HealthCare Users Group (MS-HUG) for the use of clinical information technology to improve patient care. Physicians enter orders for medications, lab tests and other procedures by computer; nurses, physicians and other caregivers use electronic patient charting and entry of medications administered; and an electronic system ensures vital patient information is communicated at shift changes and when patients are transferred. These systems are helping improve patient safety, and today, Alamance Regional is ranked in the top three percent of hospitals in the nation for use of an advanced electronic medical record.
