Alamance Regional’s Pastoral Care and Counseling Department offers care to meet the emotional and spiritual needs of patients, families and staff. Chaplains are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our staff chaplains are supported by the presence of clinical pastoral education students and ministers from the community who volunteer as chaplains.
A chapel is located on the second floor, between the surgical waiting area and patient units. It is available for personal and small group meditation. Worship services are held in conjunction with religious holidays and for special observances.

Advance Directives
Chaplains at Alamance Regional provide education about completing Advance Directives, and we facilitate the completion of Advance Directives with patients and their families. To speak to a chaplain about Advance Directives, please call 336-538-7475 or ask your nurse to page the chaplain on call.

Clinical Pastoral Education Programs:
Full-time Level I CPE Internship, Summer – Students are in the hospital five days a week for 11 weeks, and provide coverage for up to 7 24-hour on-call shifts (some weekends required). This program begins in the last week of May and runs through the first week of August. Lunch is provided free each day the student is in the hospital, as well as all meals while on call.
Part-time Extended Level I CPE Internship, Fall & Spring – Our part-time units are designed to provide a unique opportunity for students who are intent on learning about pastoral care skills while still serving in another ministry setting.
Students are in the hospital on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 17 weeks and provide coverage for two 24-hour on-call shifts per month (some weekends required). Clinical time also includes six hours per week in a parish setting (can also be negotiated as extra time in hospital). Meals are provided while on call.
- The fall unit begins the last week of August and runs through the third week of December.
- The spring unit begins in the second week of January and runs through the first week of May.
Part-time Extended Level I/II CPE Residency – The Residency program offers four units of CPE over a 16-month period. Students are in the hospital on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and provide coverage for two 24-hour on-call shifts per month (some weekends required). Residents must have completed a unit of Level I CPE. At the completion of the 16-month Residency, the student will be better equipped for board certification through the Association of Professional Chaplains. A part-time stipend is offered and meals are provided while on call. Admission to the Residency program is considered on an open enrollment basis as positions are available.

Doctoral Programs
Two doctoral programs are offered at the Pastoral Care and Counseling Department in partnership with The Graduate Theological Foundation. Students may earn a Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Counseling or a Doctor of Psychology. The clinical training program is accredited by the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. The program assists persons in their pursuit of state licensure or certification as a pastoral counselor and facilitates integration of theory, theology and practice.

Carequest Community Counseling Center
Pastoral counseling and psychotherapy services are available at Carequest Community Counseling Center.
This new center is a service of the Pastoral Care and Counseling Department. Our counselors are trained to offer compassionate and confidential care. Counseling and psychotherapy services are provided by graduate students who are earning doctoral degrees in pastoral counseling or psychotherapy through the Doctor of Ministry and Doctor of Psychology programs at Alamance Regional. The students have completed master’s level work and are under the supervision of licensed faculty members.
