At Alamance Regional, our orthopedic surgery outcomes have consistently been ranked among the top 10 in the state. These outcomes reflect our dedication to excellence. Every day we bring orthopedic patients leading technology, compassionate care and comprehensive rehabilitation.

Advanced Surgical Technology
Computerized mapping equipment in our surgical suites creates a global positioning system for the body. This sophisticated technique, used for total joint knee replacements, provides surgeons with a visual display for ultimate precision in navigation and surgery. Advanced practices in arthroscopic knee (ACL) and shoulder surgeries are helping patients with sports injuries and other joint problems.
Our orthopedic surgeries include:

  • Total knee replacement
  • Total shoulder replacement
  • Partial knee replacement
  • Shoulder arthroscopy
  • Partial hip replacement
  • Total hip replacement
  • Knee arthroscopy
  • Carpal tunnel surgery
  • Lumbar laminectomy
  • Spine kyphoplasty
  • Anterior cervical discectomy/fusion

Rehabilitation Care
Our physical and occupational therapists begin working with patients the day after surgery to increase mobility and function. A physical therapy gym located on the Orthopedic Unit is equipped with steps, beds and chairs so patients can learn how to safely perform daily tasks.

Once released from the hospital, many orthopedic patients benefit from outpatient rehabilitation services. Outpatient services are available at several locations, including the Alamance Regional campus, South Church Street in Burlington, Mebane Medical Park and Yanceyville.

In addition, orthopedic patients who need short-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation care have access to Edgewood Place, Alamance Regional’s skilled nursing facility. A unit designed just for rehabilitation patients includes a specially equipped gym. The gym features a kitchen, stairs and other items to help patients practice every-day living.

Joint Works
Joint Works is a special program for patients preparing for knee or hip replacement surgery. The program is designed to help patients make a smooth transition from hospital to home.

Before surgery, patients attend a class taught by a registered nurse, a physical or occupational therapist, and a social worker. Patients learn what to expect after surgery, and discuss pain management, rehabilitation, exercises, and equipment. Tours of the Orthopedic Unit are also available, and family members are welcome to attend.
