The Alamance Regional Medical Center Auxiliary recognized Ralph M. Holt Jr. and Linda Boswell this week for careers of outstanding service. Holt, who is retiring from the board of directors of Alamance Regional Medical Center after 50 years of service, was named an Honorary Life Delegate to the auxiliary. Boswell, who is retiring as the director of Volunteer Services for Alamance Regional, was recognized for 28 years of service. The two were honored at the annual meeting of the auxiliary.
“Both Ralph Holt and Linda Boswell have provided tireless support for the auxiliary and outstanding service to our hospital community,” says Barbara Rinker, outgoing president of the Alamance Regional Auxiliary. “During his time as chairman of the board of directors of Alamance Regional, Ralph Holt has always made it a priority to thank the volunteers and show his appreciation and support by attending auxiliary meetings. The Holt family has a tradition of supporting the auxiliary. His mother and sister both served as president of the auxiliary at Memorial Hospital, and his wife, Eda, has sponsored fashion shows to help raise money for the auxiliary.”
Boswell served as a volunteer at Memorial Hospital of Alamance County for eight years, and began her career as director of Teen Volunteer Services at Memorial Hospital. She then served as director of Volunteer Services. When Alamance Memorial and Alamance County Hospital were brought together at the new Alamance Regional Medical Center, Boswell helped lead the merger of the two auxiliaries.
“The Alamance Regional Auxiliary has been vital to our success as an organization, and Linda’s skills and talents have helped create a strong and valuable partnership between the auxiliary and the hospital,” says Dick Donahey, Senior Vice President, Alamance Regional. “Under her guidance, the auxiliary has provided the hospital with millions of dollars worth of equipment and staffing.”
Also at today’s auxiliary meeting, Gina Blackwell was named the new director of Volunteer Services for Alamance Regional and Ometta Corbett was officially installed as the new auxiliary president. Blackwell has worked for Alamance Regional for 10 years and most recently served as an assistant in Volunteer Services.
Other auxiliary officers that were installed today include Phil Beaman, vice-president/president-elect; Gayle Ravey, secretary; Pat Murphy, auxiliary treasurer; Bill Harman, Lifeline Treasurer; and Max Ward, gift shop treasurer.
The Alamance Regional Medical Center Auxiliary includes more than 400 community members who serve as volunteers throughout the hospital and offer financial support to the hospital. Auxiliary members were recognized for providing 73, 921 volunteer hours and $48,237.73 worth of equipment and gifts to enhance hospital services during the 2008-2009 year. Volunteers serve at information desks, escort patients upon discharge, deliver patient mail, and perform a number of other tasks at Alamance Regional.
A few examples of the auxiliary’s financial support include purchasing and maintaining a courtesy car to transport outpatients from the parking lot to medical mall entrance, providing pediatric patients with a soft animal or clown, and purchasing playground equipment for the daycare facility used by hospital staff members. The auxiliary also coordinates the Lifeline Program, helping to keep the cost of the Lifeline Program among the most affordable in the nation.
