Radiology/Imaging Services
Alamance Regional’s Imaging Department creates some of medicine’s most advanced scans and images everyday. Our leading-edge technology and experienced staff are putting us at the forefront of medical care while giving doctors the detailed images they need to make diagnosis and treatment decisions.

In 2005, we became the first hospital in the world to obtain the Siemens Sensation 40, a revolutionary CT scanner that can take more than 2,000 images in a matter of seconds. Alamance Regional staff members help Siemens design and evaluate software and equipment, a process that is setting standards for other hospitals worldwide. And physicians and staff from around the globe regularly visit Alamance Regional to see our CT scanners at work.

All our radiology images are now captured and stored electronically, providing physicians with fast and convenient access to images and records and making patient care and treatment more efficient.

CT Scans – In 2005, Alamance Regional became the first hospital in the world to obtain the Siemens Sensation 40, a revolutionary CT scanner that can take more than 2,000 images in a matter of seconds. Both of our Sensation Scanners feature care dose, a technology that automatically adjusts radiation dosages to the size of the patient and body part being scanned. The result is highly detailed, 3-D images created using the lowest radiation dose possible.

MRI – Physicians are able to obtain precise, detailed studies while our patients appreciate our shorter scan times. Our state-of-the-art MRI scanners offer patients a shorter and more open tunnel. Evening MRI appointments are available for our patients’ convenience.

Mammography – Our mammography services, located in the Norville Breast Care Center (link here), Alamance Regional Mebane, and Kernodle Clinic Easttown, offer women privacy, convenience and patient education. Our digital technology has been proven to be beneficial to women with dense breast tissue.

Ultrasound – Our experienced ultrasound technologists perform obstetrical, abdominal and breast ultrasounds. Our state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment includes capabilities for 4D imaging for obstetrical studies.

Diagnostic Radiology – Our highly trained and experienced diagnostic technologists provide emergency and routine X-rays using state of the art equipment. Technologists are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Nuclear Medicine – Our nuclear medicine team includes a board-certified nuclear medicine physician. Nuclear medicine studies are used to diagnose and sometimes treat diseases such as cancer, heart disease, arthritis and infections.

PET/CT Scan - PET/CT imaging, typically available only at university teaching hospitals, is now at Alamance Regional. The system combines PET (positron emission tomography) and CT (computed tomography) techniques into a single imaging device. PET/CT has the potential to diagnose cancer earlier and provide more accurate staging of tumors, leading to better outcomes for oncology patients. PET/CT also provides the ability to evaluate cardiac diseases and brain disorders, such as dementia.

Vascular/Interventional Radiology – An experienced vascular interventional team provides our community with the same technology found in major medical centers. Nationally registered vascular/interventional technologists assist board certified physicians with diagnostic studies of the arteries, balloon procedures, placement of stents to hold open arteries, and cutting out plaque buildup in the arteries. Services are also offered for other systems of the body, including kidneys, lungs and nerves.
