Diabetes Management
Our diabetes programs are recognized by the American Diabetes Association for excellence in diabetes education. We also have more certified diabetes educators on staff than any other program in the Triad or Triangle. This certification is awarded to registered nurses (RNs) and registered dieticians (RDs) who have completed extensive training. Click here for more information about diabetes.

Our classes include:

Diabetes Intensive Self-Managment
Participants attend classes and receive individual counseling on the following topics: what is diabetes, who is at risk, benefits of diet and exercise, use and safety of medications, insulin administration, carbohydrate counting, and an introduction to insulin pumps.

This class is offered at the Grand Oaks Center on the Alamance Regional Campus, Mebane Medical Park, Yanceyville and East Burlington. Appointments are also available at the Charles Drew Clinic for patients who speak Spanish.

Gestational Diabetes Education
This program is for pregnant women with gestational diabetes. Participants attend two classes and receive individual counseling. Patients learn about gestational diabetes, who is at risk, and the benefits of diet and exercise. They are also given a blood glucose meter, instructed in the use of the meter, and instructed in urine testing for ketones.

This class is offered at the Grand Oaks Center on the Alamance Regional Campus.

Insulin Pump Program
Our insulin pump program provides an introduction to pump therapy and the pumps available, and an assessment of patient needs.
